At 7:22 p.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch valid for Monday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Central and Southeast Park County, Larimer and Boulder counties between 6,000 and 9,000 Feet and Jefferson and West Douglas counties above 6,000 feet/Gilpin/Clear Creek/Northeast Park counties below 9,000 feet.

Expect winds to be west 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 10 percent.

“Near record temperatures on Monday, combined with another period of gusty westerly winds across the Front Range foothills will lead to elevated to critical fire weather conditions, especially from the Boulder county foothills south into South Park and the Palmer Divide,” explains the NWS. “Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire.”

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
