Update: Fire weather watch in place for Southwest Colorado and Gunnison Basin for Friday – enhanced fire threat

On Wednesday at 10:02 p.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Southwest Colorado Lower Forecast Area, Gunnison Basin and Southwest Colorado Upper East Forecast Area.

Residents can expect winds to be west 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity 7 to 12%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” describes the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
