On Tuesday at 10:31 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch valid for Thursday between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. for Southern Front Range including Sangre De Cristo Mountains/Wet Mountains/La Veta Pass.

Residents can expect winds to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 9%.

“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and be very destructive,” states the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
