Update: Fire weather watch affecting Park County and Elbert/Lincoln counties Friday – gusts may reach 40 mph

The National Weather Service released an updated fire weather watch at 5:33 a.m. on Thursday valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. for Central and Southeast Park County and Southeast Elbert County below 6,000 feet/South Lincoln County.

Residents can expect winds to be west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. For Friday west 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 7% today and again on Friday.

“Conditions will be favorable for rapid fire spread. Avoid outdoor burning and any activity that may produce a spark and start a wildfire,” adds the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
