A fire weather watch was released by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 1:50 p.m. valid for Tuesday between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. The watch is for Parmer, Castro, Swisher, Briscoe, Hall, Childress, Bailey, Lamb, Hale, Floyd, Motley, Cottle, Cochran, Hockley, Lubbock, Crosby, Dickens, King, Yoakum, Terry, Lynn, Garza, Kent and Stonewall counties.

Residents can expect winds to be southwesterly at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts to 50 mph and humidity around 10 percent.

“Any fires that develop can spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged,” explains the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
