On Thursday at 8:40 p.m. an updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Saturday between 11 a.m. and 10 p.m. for Southern Front Range including Sangre De Cristo Mountains/Wet Mountains/La Veta Pass.

Winds are expected to be west 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 65 mph and relative humidity as low as 10%.

“Extreme fire danger is expected. Fires will uncontrollably spread and be very destructive,” explains the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
