An updated fire weather watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. valid for Friday between noon and 7 p.m. for Yuma, Kit Carson and Cheyenne counties.

Residents can expect winds to be northwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 17 percent.

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended,” explains the NWS.

A fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
