At 7:09 p.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service issued a fire weather watch valid for Sunday between noon and 8 p.m. for Eastern Las Animas County including Pinon Canyon and Baca County including Springfield and Eastern Comanche Grasslands.

Expect winds to be southwest 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph and relative humidity as low as 15%.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution and avoid any outdoor burning,” describes the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
