Update: 5.5 magnitude earthquake jolts close to Katsuren-haebaru, Japan on Feb. 12

The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.5 magnitude quake struck near Katsuren-haebaru Thursday morning.

A tremor shook the area at 21:48 UTC (06:48 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 95 km southeast of Katsuren-haebaru and occurred at a depth of 10 km.

According to the USGS DYFI report, weak shaking was detected and residents in cities such as Yomitan, Naha, Ishikawa, Chatan and Okinawa reported experiencing the earthquake.
