On Thursday at 2:42 a.m. the National Weather Service released a fire weather watch valid for Friday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. for Northern El Paso County including Monument and Black Forest and Southern El Paso County including Fort Carson and Colorado Springs.

Winds are expected to be southwest 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph and relative humidity as low as 14 percent.

“Fires will catch and spread quickly. Exercise extreme caution with any outdoor burning,” comments the NWS.

According to the NWS, a fire weather watch means that critical fire weather conditions are possible. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
