Earthquake strikes area near Sand Point, AK: 5.7 magnitude registered on July 17

ALEUTIANS EAST BOROUGH, AK—According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.7 magnitude quake occurred near Sand Point Thursday afternoon.

A tremor jolted the region at 4:30 a.m. (5:30 p.m. local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located about 58 miles south-southeast of Sand Point and occurred at a depth of 22 miles.
