Update: Seismic activity on July 28 – 5.3 magnitude earthquake close to Puerto Santa, Peru registered

SANTA, Ancash — A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred near Puerto Santa on Tuesday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor shook at 13:24 UTC (08:24 local time), with its epicenter roughly 151 km west-southwest of Puerto Santa and a depth of 14 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.2 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.

Last week’s tremor

There was one more tremor of magnitude 2.5 centered in the area, which was recorded close to Puerto Santa too on Jul. 21.
