Update: Earthquake of 5.0 magnitude registered near Puerto El Triunfo, El Salvador on Sept. 23

USULUTÁN OESTE, Usulután Department — A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Puerto El Triunfo Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 21:52 UTC (15:52 local time), was centered approximately 175 km south-southwest of Puerto El Triunfo. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

During the past week, one more magnitude 4.8 quake was centered in the region. The event was also documented close to Puerto El Triunfo, five days earlier.
