Update: Earthquake measuring 5.2 strikes area close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Russia on Oct. 17

YELIZOVSKY DISTRICT, Kamchatka Krai — A 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky around midday Friday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor hit the region at 01:25 UTC (13:25 local time). The epicenter was situated approximately 83 km east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, at a depth of 73 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.4 event, but later downgraded it to 5.2.
