SARMI REGENCY, Papua — A 5.5 magnitude quake was detected close to Abepura at midday on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
The tremor jolted the area at 04:13 UTC (13:13 local time). It occurred at a depth of 51 km with the epicenter located approximately 177 km west-northwest of Abepura. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.5.
