Update: 5.1 magnitude earthquake hits near Archidona, Ecuador on Dec. 19

ARCHIDONA CANTON, Napo — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.1 magnitude quake jolted close to Archidona Friday afternoon.

The tremor struck the area at 21:59 UTC (16:59 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter situated roughly 32 km northwest of Archidona.

According to the USGS DYFI report, weak to light shaking was registered and several residents in and around the Quito area reported feeling the tremor.
