The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 6.2 magnitude quake slammed close to Vilyuchinsk on Wednesday around midday.

At 00:16 UTC (11:16 local time), the region was hit by a tremor. The earthquake rocked at a depth of 35 km, with its epicenter about 126 km southeast of Vilyuchinsk. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.3 event, but later downgraded it to 6.2.
