A 5.6 magnitude quake was recorded close to Severo-Kuril’sk Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A tremor jolted the area at 07:06 UTC (17:06 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated roughly 101 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.7 event, but later downgraded it to 5.6.
