Update: Earthquake of 5.6 magnitude detected close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

SEVERO-KURILSKY DISTRICT, Sakhalin Oblast — A 5.6 magnitude quake was reported near Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 21:13 UTC (08:13 local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 223 km southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk, at a depth of 10 km. The magnitude was originally reported as 5.5 but later upgraded to 5.6.
