Earthquake of magnitude 5.2 reported near Bengkulu, Indonesia on Dec. 27

Saturday morning, a 5.2 magnitude quake was detected close to Bengkulu, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 01:10 UTC (08:10 local time), was centered approximately 189 km south of Bengkulu. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Two tremors nearby last week

Over the past week, two tremors exceeding magnitude 2.5 have been centered in the region. Both were recorded in the same area with the stronger — a 5.6 magnitude earthquake — hitting prior to this quake. The other, measuring 4.6, jolted on December 20.
