RAMON SANTANA, San Pedro de Macorís Province — A 5.2 magnitude quake occurred close to Ramón Santana on Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which struck the area at 21:49 UTC (17:49 local time), was centered roughly 8 km southeast of Ramón Santana. It occurred at a depth of 109 km.

In the past week, two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5 have been centered nearby. The stronger, a magnitude 4.2 quake, was registered near Bayaguana prior to this quake. The other, measuring 4.0, occurred close to La Romana on Sep. 21.
