MARE, Loyalty Islands Province — A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred close to Tadine on Saturday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the area at 07:08 UTC (18:08 local time), was centered approximately 68 km northeast of Tadine. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Tremors last week

In the past week, seven tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater have been registered in the region, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 6.6 magnitude quake, hit the same region on Sep. 26.
