A 5.2 magnitude quake hit close to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Sunday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which jolted the region at 07:19 UTC (18:19 local time), was centered roughly 175 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. It occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.

Last week’s quakes

In the past week, the region has experienced two tremors greater than magnitude 2.5. The larger, a 4.6 magnitude event, was registered close to Vilyuchinsk on Mar. 21. The other, with a magnitude of 4.2, rattled near Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on Mar. 17.
