A 5.0 magnitude quake hit near Yamada on Friday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor shook the region at 19:55 UTC (05:55 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 122 km east of Yamada and occurred at a depth of 33 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later downgraded it to 5.0.

Two tremors nearby last week

In the past week, there have been two quakes exceeding magnitude 5.5 centered in the area. Both were detected in the same region where the larger one was a 5.7 earthquake that struck on Mar. 8. The other, of magnitude 5.4, hit on Mar. 8.
