The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.1 magnitude quake shook close to Severo-Kuril’sk Sunday morning.
The tremor struck at 19:47 UTC (06:47 local time), with its epicenter located roughly 253 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and a depth of 10 km.

Over the last week, there have been 29 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 or higher centered nearby, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The biggest, a 6.1 magnitude tremor, was recorded in the same region two days earlier.
