Update: Seismic activity on Jan. 29 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake close to Panguna, Papua New Guinea recorded

A 5.0 magnitude quake was detected near Panguna Thursday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 20:28 UTC (06:28 local time), was centered approximately 198 km west-northwest of Panguna. It occurred at a depth of 81 km.
