Update: Seismic activity on Jan. 27 – 5.2 magnitude earthquake near Nemuro, Japan detected

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.2 magnitude quake shook close to Nemuro around midday Tuesday.

It was reported that a tremor struck the region at 02:47 UTC (12:47 local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 76 km east-southeast of Nemuro, at a depth of 35 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.0 event, but later upgraded it to 5.2.
