Earthquake measuring 5.2 shakes area near Neiafu, Tonga on Sept. 8

A 5.2 magnitude quake hit close to Neiafu on Tuesday around midnight, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor, which jolted the region at 11:51 UTC (00:51 local time), was centered roughly 22 km south-southeast of Neiafu. It occurred at a depth of 35 km.
