The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.2 magnitude quake hit close to South Sandwich Islands region Friday afternoon.

The tremor, which jolted the area at 19:30 UTC (17:30 local time), was centered of South Sandwich Islands region. It occurred at a depth of 110 km.
