Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake jolts near Bitung, Indonesia on April 2

A 5.2 magnitude quake shook close to Bitung on Thursday around midday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor struck the area at 02:10 UTC (11:10 local time). It occurred at a depth of 35 km with the epicenter about 115 km east-southeast of Bitung.

Eight tremors of magnitude 2.5 or above have been recorded in the region over the last week, two of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The strongest, a 7.4 magnitude quake, was detected near Ternate on Apr. 2.
