FARASAN, Jazan Province — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.3 magnitude quake hit close to Farasān Tuesday afternoon.
A tremor struck the area at 12:04 UTC (15:04 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 109 km west of Farasān and occurred at a depth of 10 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.1 event, but later upgraded it to 5.3.

Three quakes of magnitude 2.5 or above have been registered in the region over the last week. The strongest, a 4.3 magnitude quake, shook in the same region prior to this quake.
