Earthquake measuring 5.0 rattles area close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on Aug. 14

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to Severo-Kuril’sk Thursday morning.

A tremor shook the region at 16:46 UTC (02:46 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was located roughly 104 km south of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 54 km.

Last week, there have been six quakes of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby. The largest one was a 5.0 earthquake that hit the same region five days ago.
