Earthquake measuring 5.1 jolts area close to Oula Xiuma, China on July 28

A 5.1 magnitude quake occurred near Oula Xiuma on Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which hit the region at 08:04 UTC (16:04 local time), was centered about 198 km northwest of Oula Xiuma. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.

Two quakes nearby past week

In the past week, two tremors exceeding magnitude 5.5 have been centered nearby. Both were recorded in the same area with the stronger — a 5.8 magnitude earthquake — striking prior to this quake. The other, measuring 5.7, hit on Jul. 28.
