Earthquake measuring 5.0 shakes area near the Fiji Islands on Oct. 2

NAITASIRI, Central Division — A 5.0 magnitude quake occurred close to the Fiji Islands on Friday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor struck at 04:27 UTC (16:27 local time), with its epicenter south of the Fiji Islands and a depth of 557 km.
