Update: Earthquake hits region near Chiniak, AK on Dec. 16 – 5.0 magnitude registered

KODIAK ISLAND BOROUGH, AK — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake rattled close to Chiniak on Tuesday around midday.

It was reported that a tremor jolted the area at 11:35 p.m. (1:35 p.m. local time). The epicenter was situated roughly 160 miles east-southeast of Chiniak, at a depth of 6 miles.
