Update: Seismic activity on Jan. 17 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake near Yonakuni, Japan reported

YAEYAMA DISTRICT, Okinawa — at midday on Saturday, a 5.0 magnitude quake was detected close to Yonakuni, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

At 04:18 UTC (12:18 local time), the region was rattled by a tremor. The earthquake shook at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter approximately 76 km southwest of Yonakuni.
