Update: 5.6 magnitude earthquake strikes near Izu Islands, Japan region on June 18

A 5.6 magnitude quake occurred near Izu Islands on Thursday morning, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The tremor hit the area at 19:17 UTC (04:17 local time). It occurred at a depth of 10 km with the epicenter of Izu Islands. Seismologists first reported it as a 5.3 event, but later upgraded it to 5.6.
