Update: 5.2 magnitude earthquake registered near Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia on July 30

A 5.2 magnitude quake was recorded near Severo-Kuril’sk Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor shook the area at 15:00 UTC (02:00 local time). It occurred at a depth of 12 km with the epicenter situated about 143 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk.

Last week, there have been 19 tremors of magnitude 2.5 or greater centered nearby, four of them larger than magnitude 5.5. The largest one was a 5.9 earthquake that was reported in the same region prior to this quake.
