Update: Sept. 15 – 5.0 magnitude earthquake recorded close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia

SEVERO-KURILSKY DISTRICT, Sakhalin Oblast — Monday morning, a 5.0 magnitude quake was registered near Severo-Kuril’sk, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The tremor, which shook the area at 17:15 UTC (04:15 local time), was centered about 246 km east-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk. It occurred at a depth of 10 km.
