Dust storm warning in place for Reeves and Ward counties Wednesday evening

On Wednesday at 5:08 p.m. the National Weather Service issued a dust storm warning in effect until 6 p.m. for Reeves and Ward counties.

“At 5:07 p.m., blowing dust associated with a strong thunderstorm was 9 miles east of Toyah, moving north at 25 mph,” according to the NWS. “This includes Interstate 20 between mile markers 19 and 48.”

Locations impacted by the warning include Barstow, Pecos, Toyah, Pecos Municipal Airport and Toyah Lake.

“Dangerous life-threatening travel,” says the NWS. “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
