On Friday at 4:20 p.m. a dust storm warning was released by the National Weather Service in effect until 5 p.m. for Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties.
“At 4:20 p.m., a dust channel was near Burlington, moving east at 25 mph,” comments the NWS. “Dangerous life-threatening travel.”
The warning is for Burlington, Kanorado and Ruleton. This includes the following highways: Interstate 70 in Kansas between mile markers 0 and 13. Interstate 70 in Colorado between mile markers 436 and 450. Highway 385 between mile markers 166 and 202.
The NWS adds, “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
