The National Weather Service issued a dust storm warning at 3:55 p.m. on Saturday in effect until 6 p.m. for Hudspeth County.
“At 3:55 p.m., an area of blowing dust was over Esperanza,” according to the NWS. “This includes Interstate 10 in Texas between mile markers 63 and 111.”
Locations impacted by the warning include Esperanza, Cornudas, Fort Hancock, McNary, Loma Linda, Sunset Ranches, Acala, Hueco Mountain Wind Ranch, Finlay, Round Top Mountain, Sierra Blanca, Quitman Canyon and Desert Haven.
“Dangerous life-threatening travel,” states the NWS. “Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your foot off the brake.”
