SANXING TOWNSHIP, Yilan County — According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 6.6 magnitude quake hit near Yilan Saturday night.

The tremor, which slammed the region at 15:05 UTC (23:05 local time), was centered about 30 km east-southeast of Yilan. It occurred at a depth of 63 km. Seismologists first reported it as a 6.7 event, but later downgraded it to 6.6.
