Dec. 12: Earthquake measuring 5.0 hits region close to Severo-Kuril’sk, Russia

SEVERO-KURILSKY DISTRICT, Sakhalin Oblast — the U.S. Geological Survey reported that a 5.0 magnitude quake shook near Severo-Kuril’sk Friday morning.

A tremor jolted the area at 00:25 UTC (10:25 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was situated approximately 274 km south-southeast of Severo-Kuril’sk and occurred at a depth of 10 km.
