The Nittany Lions narrowed the gap to 2-1 early in the third period when Nicholas Degraves scored, assisted by Ben Schoen and Simon Mack.
The Terriers increased the lead to 3-1 with 59 seconds remaining of the third after a goal from Jack Harvey, assisted by Tom Willander and Jack Hughes.
