Update: Beach hazards statement in place for Texas Gulf Coast until 1 a.m. Sunday

Published Apr 5, 2025

The National Weather Service released an updated beach hazards statement at 2:43 p.m. on Saturday in effect until Sunday at 1 a.m. The statement is for Matagorda Islands, Brazoria Islands, Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula.

The NWS states to expect, “High risk of rip currents. Minor coastal flooding possible around high tides cycles.”

“Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away from shore into deeper water. Elevated tides could lead to minor flooding of beaches, lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures possible. This includes the lowest more-prone spots like HWY 87/124 along the Bolivar Peninsula, Western Galveston Island, Bluewater Highway and Surfside,” explains the NWS. “Remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.”
