System name: Cosme

On Sunday at 4 pm, the National Hurricane Center issued an advisory stating that the weather system gained sufficient intensity to be named Cosme. The tropical depression upgraded to a tropical storm with winds of 45 mph. The system’s new name was first made public in the 4 p.m. advisory. Tropical Storm Cosme is currently at the Pacific Ocean, 665 miles south of the Southern Tip of Baja California. Packing maximum sustained winds of 45 mph, the system is tracking to the northwest at 8 mph.

“A slow down and turn to the northeast is forecast to occur by mid-week” meteorologists wrote. “Additional strengthening is expected, and Cosme is forecast to be near hurricane strength on Monday”

Today, a system that was previously forecasted as a tropical depression has been officially named Tropical Storm Cosme as it has progressed into a fully formed tropical storm. The name gain was first reported in the 4 p.m. update.
