On Friday at 9:37 a.m. the National Weather Service issued an updated fire weather watch valid for Saturday between noon and 8 p.m. for San Luis Valley including Alamosa/Del Norte/Fort Garland/Saguache, Huerfano County including Walsenburg and Western Las Animas County including Trinidad and Thatcher.

Residents can expect winds to be southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 11 percent.

“Elevated fire danger is expected. Fires will catch and spread rapidly and erratically,” says the NWS.
