Earthquake shakes area near Panguna, Papua New Guinea: 5.0 magnitude reported on Oct. 2

A 5.0 magnitude quake jolted near Panguna on Friday night, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A tremor hit the region at 11:14 UTC (22:14 local time). The earthquake’s epicenter was about 63 km southwest of Panguna and occurred at a depth of 38 km.
