A 5.3 magnitude quake occurred close to Yōkaichiba on Thursday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

At 12:27 UTC (21:27 local time), a tremor jolted the region at a depth of 42 km, with its epicenter roughly 0 km north-northeast of Yōkaichiba.

Past week’s quakes

In the past week, there have been two earthquakes greater than magnitude 2.5 in the area. The largest, a 4.4 magnitude tremor, was detected near Hasaki on Sep. 1, while a smaller 4.3 magnitude quake hit close to Kōzaki on Sep. 27.
